Turn the knob on that memory machine of yours to the year 2001 and you’re bound to come across the best thing to happen to television sitcoms since Seinfeld. A little series called Scrubs welcomed viewers to Sacred Heart Hospital, home to what can easily be labeled the perfect mesh of laugh-out-loud hilarity and heart-piercing drama. The series followed intern John Dorian, better known as J.D., (Zach Braff) as he endured the ups and downs of his first year of hospital life along with best friend Chris Turk (Donald Faison), fellow intern and proclaimed pushover Elliot Reid (Sarah Chalke), veteran nurse Carla Espinosa (Judy Reyes), and mentor-to-all Dr. Perry Cox (John C. McGinley). Before you knew it, J.D. was receiving advice from Dr. Cox on his last day as an intern, Turk was embracing his new relationship with Carla, and Elliot was retiring her title as doormat. The end of that memorable first season left audiences salivating with anticipation to watch these intriguing personalities continue to grow in further seasons.

Five years later we regular viewers find ourselves more than acquainted with the crazy world that is Sacred Heart Hospital. We’ve come to love the characters the way we love our families. Just when it seems as though Scrubs has dished out all that it can offer, the series’ plot begins to hit closer to home. As the lives of J.D. and the gang gain a sense of stability inside Sacred Heart Hospital, their lives outside of the hospital become increasingly hectic. This change in the show’s tempo brings about a range of conflicts that viewers can easily relate to, the most vital being parenthood. This sixth season kicks off into motion with J.D. dealing with the news that his new found love Kim Briggs (Elizabeth Banks) is pregnant. Meanwhile, Turk and Carla (now married) are expecting their first child as Dr. Cox and his ex-wife Jordan Sullivan (Christa Miller) are expecting their second. With such a dramatic setup, only matters of truly catastrophic proportions can cause one to miss the magic that is laced throughout this sixth run of the series. A rundown of some key plot points should surely highlight this magic.

The compelling season premiere focuses on the particular issues of J.D., Dr. Cox, and the Janitor (Neil Flynn) as they come face to face with mirror images of themselves in patients. The interaction that follows causes these three men to reflect on their greatest flaws. J.D. realizes that he must find the courage to own up to his coming duties of being a father. Dr. Cox comes to terms with the importance of controlling his rage in order to better ...
