If you’re anything like me (i.e. born in the '80s), you've got to be impossibly psyched for the new Transformers movie hitting theaters July 4th. Well, hold onto your hats, because another hot piece of 80s nostalgia may be coming our way soon.
Word on the street is, we might, and I emphasize might, be getting another He-Man movie from the people over at Warner Bros. Ain't It Cool News reports that scribe Justin Marks will be penning the remake of the 1987 Masters of the Universe pic. Marks is currently writing Supermax, based on the DC Comics Green Arrow property, as well as big-screen versions of Voltron and Streetfighter. Hell, why not throw in a Thundercats movie while you’re at it, Justin?
But, before we get too carried away with ourselves, AICN reports, "Joel Silver's going to be producing HE-MAN as soon as Marks finds time to write it [emphasis added], and Warner Bros. is going to be releasing the film if [ditto] it makes it through the development process." Considering how long it's taken to get the fourth Indiana Jones movie off the ground, a new He-Man sounds like it's far from a lock, especially with all the other projects Marks has on his plate. Either way, we'll keep on eye out for any developments.
I’m still not sure how I feel about all this aggressive marketing to my generation's nostalgia. Michael Bay looks like he’s going to deliver with Transformers, but it's hard to forget that the Weinstein Co. not so recently fumbled the ball with their CGI TMNT, one of my favorites growing up. And there's not much margin for error when you're dealing with a half-naked prince that shouts at the top of his lungs as he rides a giant tiger (unless you're in a Dio song).
Oh, and there’s just one more thing to consider here: does this really mean we're only 10 years away from a live-action Pokemon movie?
