Director Reny Harlin and journeyman actor Samuel L. Jackson are working to create a sequel to the 1996 action-thriller, The Long Kiss Goodnight. Originally starring Jackson and Geena Davis, who is not expected to reappear in the sequel, The Long Kiss Goodnight was notable for being one of the most expensive screenplays ever bought - writer Shane Black was paid $4 million for the rights to the script.
It remains to be seen exactly how the filmmakers will work around the non-participation of Davis, who played the dual roles of Samantha Caine and Charly Baltimore in the first movie. Jackson is purportedly excited to reprise his role of Mitch Henessey, one of the more entertaining sidekicks of mid-1990's action movies. The original film opened to above-average reviews, but gained a gradually bigger following after being released on DVD. |
