Lost star (and therefore a personal hero of mine) Matthew Fox will sign onto Billy Smoke, according to Variety.
The movie is based on a not-yet-released comic book by B. Clay Moore focusing on an elite hit man who decides it's his duty to rid the world of all assassins. (Presumably, then, he's saving himself for last, or else it would be a rather short story.)
It sounds generic, but as that's the only info we have on the project so far, it's bound to at this point.
This would mark Matthew Fox's first sole-headlining role in a movie. Can he pull that -- and the role of an elite hit man -- off? I mean, we know he's good at playing control-freak doctors with bad Oxycontin habits, but he also did a solid job as Racer X in Speed Racer, a totally different type of character.
No start date is mentioned, although the comic doesn't land until next year, and Fox is committed to start shooting Lost's fifth season in August. If Warner Bros. gets the ball rolling, they'll most likely shoot at the beginning of next summer for a 2010 release. ❏
