Burn After Reading is the newest film to come out of the Coen Brothers machine, and it looks like a return to the whacked-out comedy stylings of The Big Lebowski after their Best Picture-winning Western, No Country for Old Men.
The plot kicks off when a disc containing the memoirs of a CIA agent falls into the hands of two unwise gym employees who attempt to sell it. George Clooney, Frances McDormand, John Malkovich, Tilda Swinton, Richard Jenkins, and Brad Pitt (in full-on crazy mode) star.
First, check out the red-band trailer, which will fill in some of the plot details for you:
Now, check out the official (non-red-band) teaser, which has no plot details whatsoever but is big on style. It also makes Clooney's part look much bigger than Pitt's, unlike the first trailer. Given Pitt's "and" credit status, could his role possibly be cut short early in the film?
Now that you're sufficiently pumped up, I'll leave you with the poster, an old-school minimalist confection that brings a smile to my face:
The best part is, the flick comes out September 12th, 2008, so we don't even have long to wait. ❏
